Have you ever had a conversation that changes your entire outlook on the world? One that shifts your worldview in monumental ways? That challenges and invites you to think about your choices in terms that are entirely different?
In today’s episode, Brooke chats with the utterly wonderful Annie Raser-Rowland, co-author of The Art of Frugal Hedonism and experiences one of those conversations herself, as she and Annie talk about the movement known as frugal hedonism – designed to help you spend less while enjoying everything more.
There are many practical ways to start adopting frugal hedonism in to your life, and Annie and Brooke cover some of those in their chat, but even more than that it’s about experiencing moments, paying attention, giving yourself space and time to spend afternoons immersed in cloud-watching or 10 minutes eating an apple in the sun. It’s about deciding what’s important and putting those things at the centre, even if that means we give up on lots of other things along the way.
They also talk about envy and comparisons, and the role these have in the constant striving to keep up, the impact of advertising and social conditioning (and social media for that matter!) on our desire to fit in, and where Annie’s drive to simplify stems from.
In short, this is an incredibly inspiring conversation. Enjoy!
